Get ready — Spring is here — with activities, events and things to do galore! We were lucky to have a mild winter but the warmer weather is always welcome. The big highlight of the month is Easter with celebrations, reflection and break time.  Get your calendar ready and start planning your April!

1. Student Scholarships

Students! Time to visit your Career Service Dept. or Guidance Counselor to apply to all of the scholarships that are waiting for you! Now is the time to be considered for a reward for all the academic work, sport achievements and extra-curricular activity that you can list on your resume. Deadlines are usually in April — don’t wait!

The Lake Jackson Lions Club will be hosting its 18th annual flea market season starting in April. It is held the second and fourth Saturdays, April thru October, at LIONS PARK, on 234 south of Manassas at the intersection with Hoadly Road. We have space for 30 vendors, fee is $20 per space.

4. Eggstravaganza at Ben Lomond Historic Site

$5 per person, children ages 2 and under are free

Ben Lomond Historic Site and Pat White Center at Ben Lomond are coming together for a special Eggstravagazna, but we have lost our eggs and are asking for your help to find them!  Egg Hunts will be at 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm and 2:30pm at the historic site and each hunt will be separated by age groups.  Try your skills at a historic egg roll as well as enjoying fun kid friendly games and crafts at Pat White Center at Ben Lomond.  Bring your own basket for egg collecting.  Tours of the Civil War Hospital will be available.  Purchase tickets at Pat White Center at Ben Lomond.

Ever wanted to run on an Airport Runway? Well, now you have that chance! Come out for a great day of fun and running for the entire family with both a 10k and 5k run plus a 1 mile fun run. Vintage and modern aircraft on display. Drawings for airplane rides furnished by local flight schools. Proceeds of the event go to: Manassas City Police Association, Compassion Airlift, Bull Run Rotary Foundation.

11. 64th Annual Daffodil Show

The Washington Daffodil Society presents the 67th Annual Daffodil Show featuring different forms and colors of this popular spring flower.  In addition to exhibits of daffodils, the show includes a design category and a multi-category photography contest, with photographs to feature daffodils.

12. Fundraising and Charity Event

Park West Lions Club reported they would be holding their $10,00,00 Super Raffle on April 15th at 8620 Sunnygate Dr, Manassas. Call Chester Smith at 703-392-0077 for tickets.   Tickets are $100.00 each, two admissions per ticket. Payout $12.900.00. Free food and beverages, music after drawing. Social starts at 5 PM. Drawing at 7 PM.

 

13. Special Election

Vote on April 18th at your regular voting  precinct for the purpose of filling the vacancy that exists in the office of the Clerk of Circuit Court of the 31st Judicial Circuit of Virginia for the remainder of the unexpired term. Round Elementary is the new precinct, so check out the voting map.

16. 11th Annual Live Well Festival in Historic Manassas

Free to attend. Brunch & Face paint class tickets have fees.

In honor of Earth Day, Historic Downtown Manassas announces the 11th Annual Live Well Festival to be held on Saturday, April 22nd.

Head over to the Harris Pavilion for free health screenings, fitness classes, kid activities, entertainment, and more. Recycle those gently used household items or clothes to a worthy cause, visit with the recycling and environmental exhibitors, and help the kids make earth friendly art projects. The day includes exhibitors from non-profit and civic organizations providing recycling and environmental information. A number of artists from the Banner Art project will also be set up displaying and selling original artwork!

The Shredding Truck will be back again this year! The Shredding Truck will be located in the Train Depot parking lot on West Street.
Turn onto West Street via Prince William Street and enter Parking Lot on the left in front of the Train Depot. Exit via Battle Street.

Again this year, the Live Well Festival will feature a farm to table brunch at 10:30am! Purchase your tickets here!
