May is National Foster Care Month

National Foster Care month is an initiative of the Children’s Bureau. In an effort to recognize the important network of foster parents, family members, volunteers, mentors, policy makers and child welfare professionals in the community who help find  permanent homes for children and youth in foster care.

The purpose of foster care is to provide support for families going through transition and working to better their circumstances so they can be reunited, it is not a substitute for parents. The foster care system holistically supports  reunification and long term family stabilization.

The child welfare website provides various resources, including a podcast, videos, informative digital resources and links to partner websites. These are meant to engage partners, legal professionals, foster parents and other community members involved in the intricate network of foster care work.
