The Virginia War Memorial is the Commonwealth of Virginia’s premier monument, museum, and educational center dedicated to Virginians who served to defend the United States from World War II through today.
Its mission: To honor veterans, preserve history, educate youth, and inspire patriotism in all.
From the Virginia War Memorial website:
In keeping with current cautionary procedures in place all over the Commonwealth as a part of the COVID-19 Pandemic response, this year’s ceremony will be closed to the public but live-streamed so all may participate while maintaining appropriate social-distancing.
The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. in the Shrine of Memory – 20th Century, on the War Memorial grounds. We invite you to “tune in” and help to honor and remember service and family members, friends and fellow citizens who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to America.
The ceremony will include a pre-recorded keynote address, a special tribute to SSG McLaughlin who has been lost since Memorial Day 2019, and the placing of a wreath by Virginia War Memorial staff.
Families and organizations who would like to place a wreath at the Memorial are invited to do so privately, any time after 11:30 a.m. on Memorial Day through Friday, May 29. Be sure to continue observing safety guidelines regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic response.
